Warmly welcoming crew and delicious coffee whenever you visit

Anchor Coffee Uchiwan Branch is Kesennuma's best spot to relax while looking out at the sea.
At Anchor Coffee Mother Port, you'll be greeted by the aroma of roasted coffee and then tempted by the hearty weekly lunch menu and homemade sweets.
Anchor Coffee in Kesennuma is a relaxing place for Kesennuma locals and tourists alike.
In a port town with the aroma of coffee. It all started with a drive-through coffee stand
Anchor Coffee began in 2005 as a drive-through coffee stand along the national highway.

He was impressed by the deliciousness of cafe latte he encountered while studying abroad in the United States, and he wants to make Kesennuma a port town that smells of coffee so that people can drink that same cafe latte in Kesennuma. The concept is "from boots to leather shoes".
The coffee shop started by Yasutada Onodera (known as Yatchi-san), president of Onodera Corporation, has now expanded to eight stores in Miyagi and Iwate.

After the earthquake disaster, "we set sail again from this land"
In the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011, two stores, including the one with the roasting studio, and his home were damaged. Yatchi was on a plane to Italy for work when he received the news.
After the disaster, Yatchi felt that he couldn't let things end like this. He raised funds through a fund and opened a store equipped with a roasting machine and a confectionery factory. On the wall of the store in the temporary shopping district was the following inscription:
We will set sail again from this place
With the crew
Together with Kesennuma
With the Sea
The temporary store, which has been loved by many people, including locals, those who come to support the project or volunteer, and technical trainees from Indonesia working in Kesennuma, will close its doors in 2018. However, the words inscribed on the wall are now displayed at the entrance to Anchor Coffee Uchiwan, a "Traveler's Cafe" overlooking the bay.

We use locally produced ingredients as much as possible, including rice, vegetables, fruits, meat and milk.

The Mother Port store's lunch menu changes weekly with dishes from around the world and Japan, including Samgyetang, a Korean dish made with a whole chicken thigh stewed until tender, and chirashi sushi, available during the Girl's Festival season. Popular dishes can sell out early at lunchtime. The Mother Port store, which also offers a full breakfast set and cafe menu, is always bustling with locals and feels like a cozy living room.

When restaurants have to revise the prices of their menu items due to the weak yen and rising raw material prices, they receive the following "notice."
Although our influence is small, we place importance on the local economy, and we purchase locally grown rice from a local rice shop, bread from a local bakery, meat from a local butcher, milk from a local source, etc. When we thought about what we should do as a "local cafe that values the community," we decided that it would be difficult to maintain prices on our own any longer.
We will continue to strive to improve our service so that we can provide you with better food and drinks, and above all, a richer experience, so we hope you will continue to patronize us.
As a shop rooted in the local community, we do what we can for the community. This is the store's philosophy, and the customers who empathize with it. It is because of this mutual philosophy that Anchor Coffee continues to be a store that is loved by the local community.
I want to create an environment that enriches everyday life.
It has been 2005 years since the first store opened in 1. Anchor Coffee has continued to exist as a coffee shop rooted in the town, undergoing repeated changes and adaptations through the earthquake disaster and the COVID-18 pandemic. Kesennuma is a fishing port located in an inlet of the ria coast, where people and cultures have intermingled since ancient times as they navigate the Kuroshio Current and the Oyashio Current. In addition, there are many deep-sea fishing vessels, so there are sailors who know the seas and ports of the world.
Yatchi hopes that this place will become a home port for people who enjoy the fusion of different cultures.

For those who want to know more about the story of Anchor Coffee
Published in December 2022, "MOTHER PORT BOOK" is a book that delves deeper into the history of Anchor Coffee and the two-way relationship between the store and its customers. It is like a magazine that carefully compiles interviews with Yatchi-san, staff and customers, as well as the thoughts of everyone involved.
You can get it at eight Anchor Coffee family stores in Miyagi and Iwate prefectures, including two Anchor Coffee stores in Kesennuma. Please come and try it out.
