A classic Kesennuma tourist activity: why not get up a little early and walk around the fish market with a guide?
Kesennuma is one of the leading fishing ports in Japan, and fresh fish are landed every day. The lively market is full of things to see! We will also show you the Fisheries Information Center, which is full of unique exhibits such as impressive footage and a Fisherman's World Map!
This is a tour you can't miss when visiting Kesennuma! On mornings between mid-October and December, when the temperature drops significantly, you might be able to see Kesennuma's signature winter phenomenon, "Ki-arashi."
*The amount of catch is usually smaller from winter to spring. There may be days in winter when no catch is caught, and in those cases, the information will be mainly based on photos.
The morning in the port town starts at the fish market.
The sights you can see and experience at the market, such as fishermen unloading their catch and buyers bidding, are refreshing!
The species of fish caught and the location they are caught will change depending on the day. If you want to make sure you see all the highlights, we recommend this guided tour.
We are also preparing some rare experiences, such as bonito line fishing and swordfish horns (officially called dung)! *Please note that depending on the situation on the day, it may not be possible to participate.

After the tour, you will be issued a participation certificate with the date of participation stamped on it. It will definitely become a memorable memory of your trip!!

Since it is an early morning program, you may be able to see a ki-arashi at the same time on cold days from mid-October onwards (please check the link in the image for more information about the ki-arashi)!!

Just walking is a waste! The appeal of guided tours

Each guide member who will be showing you around has their own personality. Through conversation with your guide, you can ask them about sightseeing points in Kesennuma, recommended restaurants, and souvenir shops. Since it is an early morning program, you can enjoy sightseeing in Kesennuma even after the guided tour (^^♪
If you want to know in advance what the guided tour is like, please check out the experience report and video.
