170 years with fishermen! A tour exploring a long-established fishing tackle shop

We sneak into a fishing tackle shop that is usually off limits to the public! Ropes, metal fittings, baskets, and other tools are all different depending on the type of fishing. Fishing gear is filled with the wisdom and ingenuity needed to catch fish.

Asaya Co., Ltd., which was founded in Kesennuma in 1850, has supported the fishing industry in Kesennuma and the Sanriku coast since its founding. What began as a business purchasing hemp for making fishing line has expanded over the years, and now the company handles over 30,000 products. We promise you'll be amazed and learn a lot from the wider variety of products than you'd expect, the rational materials and shapes, and the many fishing gear you'll see for the first time.

We will explore various fishing tackle shops that you don't usually get to see!

Fishing gear, such as nets, has been designed to conserve marine resources by adjusting the mesh to catch only the targeted size of fish and by preventing young fish from getting caught in the nets. We hope that by exploring the fishing tackle shop, children will become interested in fishing, which "protects the abundance of the sea."

• Please wear comfortable walking shoes and clothing.
• If it's cold, please bring warm clothing and a jacket.
• Please bring an umbrella or other rain gear in case of rain.
• If a natural disaster or other risk is expected, the tour will be cancelled. You will be notified by phone or email.
