We will introduce you to a restaurant where you can enjoy hearty seafood grilling, including fresh oysters and scallops.
The sizzling sound and fragrant smell of the sea will whet your appetite! Enjoy the deliciousness of whole, freshly caught fish.

Karakuwa Banya, a restored oyster hut

Located about a 20-minute drive from Kesennuma city center, Karakuwa Banya is an oyster hut that was opened with support from oyster farmers in Karakuwa, who suffered severe damage in the earthquake disaster.

Fresh oysters and scallops are steamed on a special table with a covered iron plate. When the oysters are done, the staff will open the lid, so you can enjoy the smell of the sea and the rising steam!

Oysters that are grown with great care and time grow large and rich in flavor.
The steamed flesh becomes even plumper and is delicious as is, or with a dash of lemon juice if you like. The soup left in the shell is also packed with flavor.

The view of Karakuwanai Bay spreads out outside the window, allowing you to relax and unwind. (Reservations required for the oyster hut.)

Hamayaki & BBQ Gold Smile

Newly opened in Kesennuma Oshima in December 2021! This restaurant offers freshly caught oysters and scallops purchased from fishermen on the island, grilled on the spot. It is located about a 12-minute drive from the Urashima Oshima IC on the Sanriku Expressway, so it is easily accessible. It is located near the Kesennuma Oshima Welcome Terminal, the base for sightseeing on Oshima.

A popular menu item is "Kankan Yaki," which is oysters or scallops steamed in a can with the shell still attached. You can order just one oyster, and they also offer cream stew, cheese grilled oysters, and oyster soup, so it's nice to be able to order a variety of dishes.

Kesennuma Oshima, which has been attracting attention for "Okaeri Mone", has seasonal oysters of a size that even locals are surprised by. Please try them on site. BBQ service is also scheduled to start in the spring.
