Ice Aquarium

Sightseeing 2022/01/16

As soon as you step inside, you'll find yourself in a world of minus 20 degrees. Illuminated by illuminations and projection mapping, the clear ice is filled with the shapes of many fish, including bonito, pacific saury, common octopus, and rockfish.
Ice is essential for the distribution of fresh fish. Using the advanced ice-making technology of the fishing city Kesennuma, 40 fish from 700 different species that are landed at Kesennuma Port are displayed inside the transparent ice that is frozen over the course of a week. Inside the venue, a projection mapping themed on the ocean off Sanriku is shown, making you feel as if you are in the sea. There are also ice sculptures such as sea squirts on display!
Please come and experience the world of minus 20 degrees wearing your winter gear!!
