This program is now full. Thank you.
Why not enjoy a stroll around the town while following the Michinoku Sea Breeze Trail to the summit of Mount Awa?
This time, we will pray for safety in the year at the historic Isuzu Shrine, and then head to the summit of Mount Anba, the symbol of Kesennuma. Part of the walking course is also part of the Michinoku Sea Breeze Trail, and it is a program where you can experience the nature and culture of the port town on foot.
We will also be providing snacks unique to Kesennuma. This is the perfect trekking opportunity to start the year off right. We look forward to your participation!
Here are some recommended guided tours!

Highlights of the course
First, a prayer
Isuzu Shrine has long been revered as a shrine for praying for safe voyages and good catches. The program starts with a prayer at the shrine! In the precincts and on the promenade, there is a "standing Ebisu statue," which is rare even nationwide.
Historical streets and nature
As its name suggests, the "Kazemachi District" is an area where people are said to have waited for the wind to set sail. The district, which retains its name from the days of sailing ships, is dotted with registered cultural properties that were built in the early Showa period, the heyday of the fishing industry.
From there, we climbed a hilly path typical of rural areas to Mount Aba, which offers a panoramic view of Kesennuma Bay. From the observation terrace halfway up the mountain or from the summit, we could see fishing boats entering and leaving Kesennuma Bay, and overlooking the sea and mountains as far as Oshima and Karakuwa.
The story of recovery
On the way down from Mount Awa, we stop at Kesennuma City Reconstruction Memorial Park. You can look down at the Shishiori and Inner Bay areas, which were severely damaged by the tsunami and fires, and see how the city has been rebuilt from a hard perspective.
From the Reconstruction Memorial Park, we proceed to the Shishiori area and visit Sugatoyo Sake Shop, a long-established liquor store that has been in business for over 100 years. With the desire to be a liquor store that connects people, the store stocks a wide range of fine sake from Kesennuma and all over the country. Here, the owner will tell you about the situation at the time of the earthquake and how the store was rebuilt. You can also sample local sake!
The finale of the trek will be a walk along the coast while admiring a wide variety of fishing boats, from dynamic ocean-going tuna boats to inshore harpoon fishing boats.
