The roadside station "Oya Kaigan" is located in Motoyoshi-cho, Kesennuma City, and serves as the southern entrance to Kesennuma. Before the earthquake, the roadside station kept sunfish in its aquarium, and the sunfish has become the main character of the roadside station.
The roadside station's theme is "All Kesennuma." It is stocked with a wide variety of ingredients and local products from Kesennuma, and offers a range of products that convey the charms of Kesennuma.
We will introduce you to the direct-from-producer corner, restaurant, and other features of the Otani Kaigan Roadside Station.
Direct from the farm corner

The spacious, high-ceilinged store is lined with fresh vegetables, seafood, and products made using Kesennuma marine products.
There is also a fish tank with lots of fresh fish, including some purchased directly from fishermen.
The products, all of which are based on the theme of "All Kesennuma," are Kesennuma's pride and joy.
Stationmaster's recommendation! 5 souvenirs from Otani Kaigan Roadside Station

Here are some recommended souvenirs by the stationmaster, including products with designs featuring the sunfish, the symbol of Oya Coast, and local sake. There are also limited items that can only be purchased here, so don't miss out!
Otani Coast Roadside Station Restaurant Umikoko

In the dining area, you can enjoy dishes including fresh local seafood.
We also offer rice bowls, set meals, and noodles, such as Kesennuma's exquisite bara sushi and Kesennuma curry, which has a rich flavor with the umami taste of swordfish.
Hama Cafe at Otani Coast Roadside Station

Hama Cafe, next to Restaurant Umikoko, serves easy-to-eat burgers, its famous soft serve ice cream, and one-handed meals. It feels great to eat the ice cream while looking out at the sea on the second floor terrace.
Tourist information corner and projection mapping

The tourist information corner provides information on recommended seasonal tourist spots and gourmet food in Kesennuma, as well as the latest news about the city. In addition, a large LCD panel on the wall shows footage of Kesennuma's rich nature and the town. Please feel free to stop by.

In the corridor connecting the farm-fresh goods corner and the restaurant, a huge sunfish tank that was once a beloved attraction at the roadside station before the disaster has been brought back to life with projection mapping to welcome visitors. Enjoy watching the fish gather around you as you get closer to the screen, and listen carefully to the sound of the waves.
A panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean! Oya Coast is right in front of you

The building is positioned so that the ocean is clearly visible, and from inside the large glass building you can see the Pacific Ocean stretching out before you from anywhere. The outdoor deck on the second floor is equipped with tables and chairs, so it's recommended to enjoy a snack while watching the ocean.

In addition, the building uses a lot of wood from Miyagi Prefecture, such as the large wooden ceiling and lattice walls in the direct-from-farm corner, creating a warm and welcoming space. As it is a building in Kesennuma, a sea town, the direct-from-farm corner and the dining space are connected by a corridor resembling a fishbone, and the elements of the sea are expressed even within the building.
The landmark is the sunfish

The landmark of Otani Coast Roadside Station is a sunfish, as displayed prominently on the sign. Not only are there sunfish set large on the exterior walls of the building, but you can also find sunfish hiding in all sorts of places. Have a go at finding them!

Right in front of the Otani Kaigan Roadside Station is Otani Beach, a wide sandy beach where families and groups can easily enjoy the sea.
