For the people of Kesennuma, the sea is the face of the town. New collective facilities have been built near the "inner bay area" right in front of the sea, and new types of shops are popping up. The shops are close enough to walk around, so we recommend just strolling around the town.

This time, we will introduce three new stores that have opened in the Uchiwan area.
We'll let you know about other stores another time!

A fish shop frequented by locals, offering both raw fish and side dishes!

Located in Hirakeru, a complex on the inner bay, Kesennuma Seisenkan Yamahiro sells raw fish, mainly seafood landed at Kesennuma Port. In the store, a wide variety of seasonal seafood is lined up, and on this day, there were varieties of donko, nametagarei, and hairy crab, all delicious in winter. Some fish are sold whole, while others are sold as fillets or sashimi. If you are unsure about how to prepare fish, you can ask the store to do it for you. If you make a reservation in advance, they will prepare a sashimi platter according to your budget, which is convenient for parties and celebrations.

Fresh, delicious fish also makes a great gift or souvenir. Delivery can be ordered in-store, so it's a great idea to give fresh, seasonal Kesennuma fish to someone far away. There is also a corner selling takeaway seafood bowls, sushi, and side dishes, including Kesennuma-style dishes such as the local dish "azara" (seal) and "kinpira gobo (burdock root with cod roe)." There is also a space with tables inside the facility where the store is located, so you can eat the side dishes you have taken home.

A juice stand that uses whole fresh vegetables

Miya Cafe opened as a juice stand where you can easily get your vitamin-packed nutrition, and they sell fresh juices that don't contain water or sugar. The juices bring out the sweetness of the fruits and vegetables, so they're recommended for health-conscious people.

In addition to nutritious juices made with kale and beets, the menu also includes fruit juices made with apples and bananas. The menu changes with the seasons, so it's worth checking out what's in season at the time. At the time of our visit, they were selling a luxurious juice made with a whole pack of strawberries from Kesennuma. When you order, the staff will cut the vegetables and make the juice for you on the spot.

Making craft beer in Kesennuma! A brewery where you can drink beer

BLACK TIDE BREWING is Kesennuma's first craft beer brewery, founded with the mission of "creating craft beer that Kesennuma can be proud of around the world."

It's located opposite the previously introduced "Miya Cafe," and you can drink craft beer standing up in the taproom attached to the brewery. There are beer spouts lined up on the wall in front of the counter, and you can enjoy many different types of craft beer, so it's a dream place for craft beer lovers, isn't it?

The types and number of beers available change from time to time, but they offer a maximum of 15 different types of beer. Why not try different flavors and compare them to find your favorite craft beer?

The brewery's head brewer, James, and brewer, Taniji, both moved to Kesennuma with a passion for creating their own original craft beer.
