"A bonito gastronomy tour that connects the 350-year history of bonito fishing in Kesennuma to the future."

2026/6/21(Sun)
-Special event the day after Tatekawa Shinosuke's solo performance-
350 years ago, in the early Edo period, the "bonito tame-zuri fishing" method, which became the basis for the current "poles and lines" fishing method, was introduced to Kesennuma Karakuwa, bringing about an innovation in Kesennuma's fishing industry.
Since then, with its abundant fishing grounds right in front of it, Kesennuma has developed as a town that "lives with the sea," and its industries and livelihoods continue to this day.
We will hear about the 350-year history of "tame-zuri" from Suzuki Shintaro, the current head of the Kodate family in Karakuwa, where the tradition was passed down.
Afterwards, at Karakuwa Goten Tsunakan, you will enjoy a course of "bonito cuisine that connects to the future" prepared by chef Yamada Hideki.

The innovations that were the result of the efforts of our ancestors in the remote villages of Tohoku that have continued for 1300 years are the foundation of this tradition.
Kesennuma is still a bustling port for unloading bonito.
We offer a special experience of tasting a course of new bonito dishes that use new techniques to connect the traditions of local cuisine to the future, while expressing gratitude to the pride of the many fishermen.
