Updated every Friday, this is the "Diary of Too Much Fun for Welcome Back Mone". Riko's trials and growth! And the misunderstandings between Suganami-sensei and Mone! We look back on the week's broadcasts. Illustrations and text by Sayumi.

*From here on, spoilers from the 17th week broadcast will be included. If you haven't watched it yet, please return now.

Monday, September 9: I'm confident

It's Monday.
Looking back at the moment when Dr. Suganami said, "I don't understand your pain. But I want to understand." Whoosh!

December 2016, 12... Wait! We've just skipped ahead about a month, haven't we? What were the two like during that time? "Shall we show off?" says Professor Suganami, taking a step closer to the sofa! Ah, I remembered him talking about thermal conduction on the sofa a while ago, and looked off into the distance. They'd already gotten so close... Anyway, can you tell me what the two of them have been up to in the past month, even if it's just in bullet points?!
Well, I'll leave it to your imagination. Anyway, Merry Christmas... be happy.

And then, March 2017... Eh? Wait! In the meantime... (omitted) Because last week, it took 3 days to go by in a week! Today, I was surprised at how quickly the time passed. Anyway, I guess everyone has been living their days smoothly. It's okay, it's okay. I'll fill in the missing parts with as many fantasies as I want.

Meanwhile, on J-Tele, Riko, who is worried about the declining viewership of her show, does an ego search and asks Mone, "What am I lacking?" To which Mone responds, "I don't think there's anything that you're lacking, Kamino-san," and "But if there is, let's find it and learn it!" I thought it was surprisingly difficult to give such simple words of encouragement, but I also thought that such honest words might have a greater impact on Riko. She holds back her tears and says with determination, "I'll easily surpass Asaoka-san." I like it.

Tuesday, September 9: Persuasiveness

Weather Experts' New Business Council. The familiar cardboard artist is... a middle school student...! The "Space Weather Project" made it to the finals. I was touched by Mr. Mounaka's long lines. It would be nice if we had tens of billions of yen.

The president clearly states that "Asaoka-kun has to be on the weather segment of J-Tele, which has seen its ratings drop." I thought he was the character who was the most "righteous" in this drama. Isn't he the polar opposite of Mi-chan, who previously criticized the Nagaura family, saying, "Repaying your debt is justice!" That said, what's great about this drama is that it doesn't comment on which side is right or wrong.

However, Riko left the place because the president's comment "made me angry and I was about to say something." I can understand this. I also get angry easily, so I think it's very important to leave the situation and cool down!
The presentation continues, with Mone completing Nosaka's unreasonable requests, Mone grinning as she casually mentions an episode from the "Seven Sages" that she heard from her boyfriend, and Uchida's development of an app for hay fever.
I think the great thing about Uchida's presentation is that it has a clear motivation, is specific, and is already moving forward with what can be done. It has results. After seeing this presentation, Riko leaves the room, saying that she doesn't have the persuasive power that Uchida has. Kamino-san has her own good points, though.

Well, the last scene is the laundromat scene. Wait a minute. Last week, we were still talking about a soba restaurant. A spare key! And Suganami-sensei uses honorific language when he speaks (emotionally and impulsively) at the right moment. Following "I want to understand you," "I think you're nice after all" has been entered again in the "How to express your feelings without using the word 'love'" contest. That's all from the scene.

September 9th (Wednesday) The water is different

While Riko is worried, Uchida's stock is skyrocketing. Asaoka seems to be up to something.
And then Monet gets into Professor Suganami's house using "the duplicate key with the shark keychain"! Things really move fast!
As for Professor Suganami's room, in one word, it looked like a serious student's room! There was cup ramen, the "shark stuffed animal" he bought in Kesennuma, and a textbook for the weather forecaster exam. It was a nice touch. Eh? Right. Of course I stopped and looked at it carefully! But in the end, I missed Monet...

When I return to Shiomiyu, Natsu tells me about Udagawa's past. Natsu calls Udagawa "Hiro-kun." It seems like Natsu has been supporting Udagawa like this since long ago. Or maybe she doesn't even realize that she is supporting him. I don't get the feeling that she wants to do something for him, but rather that she wants to be by his side. I've been wandering around searching for the meaning of love since last week, and I thought to myself that this must be what "love" is.

Lastly, Uchida-kun! I was surprised to find that Sue-chan had started calling me "Mamo-chan." The two of us went out to buy suits. The next day, while the weather team was having a meeting, Desk Hayasaka came in saying, "I have an announcement to make." When I looked at the monitor, I saw Uchida-kun, with his bangs up and no glasses, doing a camera test as a weathercaster! Eh? Shouldn't you talk to the team about this sort of thing first and make sure it's consistent? I'm sure it's pretty tough for Riko to suddenly be faced with this situation, but Asaoka-san's plan can't be wrong... I'm sure it'll be fine...

September 9th (Thursday) I have nothing

After seeing Uchida-kun's camera test, Riko couldn't help but raise her voice and say, "You just have to smile, right?" In response to Riko, Desk Manager Takamura said, "It's rude to rank work as better or worse," and "Believe that you, more than anyone else, can compete on your own merits," before leaving.

Even so, Takamura's advice was wonderful. He didn't just abandon her, but was righteous and kind (ah... I wonder if Takamura is one of those "righteous and kind" adults), and it really touched my heart. I think that in Takamura's time, it must have been much harder for women to be out in the open. It's so reassuring that such a senior would say something like this to her! I was really touched by it.

The scene changed and a bridge was built on the island! In fact, there is a bridge that connects Oshima Island in Kesennuma to the mainland.Kesennuma Oshima Bridge" opened in April 2019. Upon hearing that the bridge had been built, Monet called her father first because they both had the same experience of "he wasn't there when that happened." Their quiet, short conversation of "That's good," "That's good," made it feel like the feelings they had held for a long time had finally been reciprocated.

In the end, the weather segment started with just Mamo-chan and Riko. Uchida-kun's evaluation was very good, with messages of support coming in. Su-chan grinned in front of the TV, saying, "I want to help this guy." Yes, yes, I understand. Right now, you're making the same face I make when I see an idol trainee!
The last one is Shiomiyu. Monet is strong because she has "experienced pain," while Riko says, "I have nothing." I know it's not okay to talk about this at this level. But the normality that comes from having lived a happy life should be something people envy, but for those who are out in the open, it can become a complex. It reminded me of a line from "No Longer Human" that goes, "Weaklings even fear happiness," and "Sometimes happiness can hurt us."

Friday, September 9th: Conclusion: It's okay.

When Riko worries that she has nothing, Natsu says, "You shouldn't say that people who are hurt are better," "It's okay to have nothing," and "It's good that there are all kinds of people." These are words that only Natsu, who has been watching Udagawa for many years, could say. Riko's worries are on a different level from those of Udagawa, who are "people who are hurt and unable to move," and those who have nothing may think that Riko is selfish and say, "I envy you for even worrying about something like that." I can understand this "worrying about nothing" very well.

After her conversation with Natsu, Riko began to think that by "imagining someone out there. Thinking about and communicating with people outside of your field of vision," she could do something, even if she had nothing. This is perhaps the most important aspect of bridging the gap in positions. Having realized this, Riko began to convey information that was focused on individuals, unlike before. Just as Monet likened it to "the Kannon Bodhisattva full of compassion," a halo shone around her and she felt grateful... I'm glad that Riko was able to overcome this situation by confronting it head-on! Monet and Riko make a great pair, and I wholeheartedly recommend "Monet Riko."

Yes, but next up is "Suga Mone". Mone confides in the teacher on the phone that she wants to go back to her hometown and work someday. It's a small detail, but it seems that Mone doesn't just want to go back to her hometown, she wants to do something useful in her hometown. I think that's just wonderful!
However, I have also moved from Tokyo to Kesennuma, so I'll say it with the wind at 30 meters per second of my senior's speed... there isn't much you can do to be useful just by returning to your hometown. I came here with a lot of enthusiasm, but I think now that back then I wasn't of any use beyond "increasing the population by one person" in Kesennuma. There were days when I was saved by Natsu's words, "Just being here is enough." Well, I don't think that will happen to Monet, but I do think it's okay to live your life the way you want without worrying too much.

More importantly, it's time to catch the duplicate key... That's right. For this moment, the teacher has been unable to catch either the watermelon or the yuzu. But now, the teacher has captured Monet's heart! He has stolen something unbelievable... Your heart! See you all next week!

A summary of the week will be updated on the Kesennuma Saite Kerain website on Friday.

This week, there are many things in the drama that contrast ways of thinking and positions, such as "Riko and Monet" and "Riko, Monet, and Udagawa-san." However, I feel that none of them are denied.
Recently, I've been wondering if this is what they mean by "Yajirobee-like righteousness". As I wrote before, there is not just one correctness, and even when watching the drama, I feel that there are things that cannot be conveyed by correctness alone.

So what can we do? I think we should try our best to think and imagine. As Riko taught me this week, I want to try to imagine, think and act as much as possible about people in different positions than myself.

It was very helpful.
