Hello, I'm Kanae, a citizen writer. Kesennuma will soon be experiencing the season of fresh greenery.
The NHK serial drama "Welcome back, Mone" I, too, have been feeling excited and nervous for a long time now, no, I can't calm down (lol). Kesennuma Oshima, which has been attracting attention in the song "Okaeri Mone", was an isolated island in Kesennuma, but on April 31, 4, the Kesennuma Oshima Bridge (nicknamed the Tsurukame Bridge) was opened, making it possible to get there by car from the city. Furthermore, on March 7, 3, the section of the Sanriku Coastal Road from Kesennuma Port IC to Karakuwa Peninsula IC was opened, making access from the city even more convenient.

▲Parking costs 500 yen. On weekends and holidays, a shuttle bus runs to the summit every 20 minutes.
When I go to Oshima on a nice day, there is one place I always stop by. It is the observation deck at the top of Kameyama. Have you ever been to the top of Kameyama on Oshima?
The road to Kameyama is very narrow, and there are many places where it is difficult for cars to pass each other. In addition, the space to turn around in front of the rest house near the summit is narrow, so vehicles cannot enter. On weekends and holidays, a shuttle bus runs from Kameyama Parking Lot to the rest house every 20 minutes, so you can leave your car at Kameyama Parking Lot (charge: 500 yen) and take the free shuttle bus or walk (about 20 minutes). Many tourists who cannot drive to the rest house near the summit come to the parking lot and then go home, but if the weather is good, there is a spectacular view ahead, so I would definitely recommend going.
As we got on the shuttle bus, the view gradually opened up, and just before we reached the rest house, we heard the passengers cheer, "Wow!!" Whenever I heard such a cheer, I always nodded proudly (laugh) in my head, saying, "I thought so! I thought so!" Once we arrived at the rest house, we walked for another 10 minutes and finally arrived at the observation deck. The view from there was just...!
Not only Oshima, but also the Karakuwa Peninsula, Kesennuma City, the newly built Kesennuma Bay Crossing Bridge and Oshima Bridge, Mt. Murone, Tokusenjo, famous for its azaleas, Iwaizaki, and even Mt. Kinka in the south - a 360° panoramic view! It's so beautiful and pleasant that you'll find yourself staring blankly at it for a while. I'm sure people will return again and again just to see this view. Also, there are signs posted for each direction on the railings of the observation deck, so be sure to take a look at them as well.

After enjoying the spectacular view from the observation deck, take a break at the rest house. There is a small cafe in the rest house, so you can replenish your fluids and sweets with a cream soda. If you get tired, you can either take the shuttle bus back to the parking lot or walk. I tried walking back, and it took about 15 minutes. Moreover, you can go down while looking at the beautiful sea, so the stairs are not as difficult as you might think.

The view from the top of Mt. Kameyama is a must-see spot in Kesennuma. If you come to Kesennuma and the weather is nice, head to Oshima's Kameyama without hesitation! I'm sure a beautiful view awaits you!
