Records of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Disasters
The Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami that occurred on March 11, 2011 caused enormous damage to the coastal areas of this region (Kesennuma City and Minamisanriku Town). The museum has taken on a new mission of "conveying the damage caused by the earthquake to future generations and thereby contributing to the revitalization of local culture," and has been holding a permanent exhibition entitled "Records of the Great East Japan Earthquake and the History of Tsunami Disasters" since 2013. The exhibition displays archival photographs and disaster items collected by the curators since the disaster, as well as examining and examining the history of past tsunami disasters from multiple angles, examining their actual conditions and impacts. The exhibition will deepen knowledge of tsunamis and provide a place to consider the relationship between tsunami disasters and local culture, and the future of the region living in harmony with the sea.

◆Collection Art Exhibition
The collection art exhibition features approximately 70 diverse artworks, including paintings, sculptures, crafts, prints, and contemporary art, by artists with ties to the Tohoku, Hokkaido, and local areas.
