シャークミュージアム

The only shark museum in Japan!

Recommended 2021/02/09

Kesennuma, which overlooks the Sanriku coast, one of the world's three largest fishing grounds, has always been bustling with numerous fishing boats and the bounty of the sea.
Of all the fish landed in Kesennuma, shark is particularly famous. Kesennuma boasts the highest catch in Japan and is also known as a producer of high-quality shark fins.
The Shark Museum, located in Kesennuma, the city of sharks, is the only shark museum in Japan.
The museum is divided into four zones, with exhibits focused on the ecology of sharks and the recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake.

An archive exhibit portraying the local people struggling to overcome the devastation caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake. And an experiential exhibit centered on the theme of "sharks," which have a deep connection to Kesennuma. Full of surprises and discoveries that can only be found here.
