Crossing the bridge to Oshima
Nicknamed Tsurukame Bridge, this bridge is a rare large arch bridge in Japan. It is 297m long, the longest in eastern Japan, and the third longest in Japan. There are turning areas on both ends of the bridge, so you can park your car and walk across the bridge. The white form of Oshima Bridge, which stands out against the contrast of the green and blue of the Oshima Strait, is sure to make you want to capture it in a photo as part of your trip.

Kesennuma Oshima is the setting for the 2021 TV drama series "Okaeri Mone," which has attracted attention. Kameyama, located on the north side of the island and 235 meters above sea level, actually appeared in a scene in the drama (the scene where the main characters play in a brass band when they were in junior high school). From the observation deck at the top of the mountain, you can enjoy a magnificent panorama, and at night you can see the night view of Kesennuma city, fishing lights, and a starry sky.

Enjoy the sea at the beach
Kodanohama, a beach on Oshima Island, is highly regarded for its beautiful scenery and water quality, and was selected as a special winner (second in the nation) in the "100 Best Swimming Beaches" by the Ministry of the Environment. Many tourists from inside and outside the prefecture still visit the beach. Swimming is recommended, but even just walking along the shore is pleasant.

Kesennuma Port is one of the largest ports in Japan for the number of ocean-going tuna fishing boats registered there, and you can see many large fishing boats moored. The sight of so many fishing boats moored that it seems to cover the entire harbor is truly impressive.

Sea and Cafe
At Naiwan Mukaeru, a commercial facility where the ferry dock is located, you'll find cafes Anchor Coffee Uchiwan Branch and Cafe RST. Cafe K-port, owned by Watanabe Ken, is also nearby. You can relax on the terrace looking out at the sea, or get takeout and enjoy a cafe menu as you stroll around.

4. Summer is all about having fun at the beach
Four beaches
Four beaches are opening in Kesennuma this year! The "Oisehama Beach" in the photo is the first beach to open since the earthquake. All of the beaches in the city boast a clean "AA water quality" and have been selected as one of the "4 Best Beaches" by the Ministry of the Environment.

Children can also enjoy playing on the beach
It's not just about swimming! Kesennuma's rocky coast is home to a lot of sea creatures. Ana Hazeti, a YouTuber based in Kesennuma, introduces us to some "playing on the rocks," perfect for the summer season.

Surfing experience for beginners
We introduce surfing, a sport that allows you to experience the waters of Kesennuma first-hand, as well as surf spots and trial schools.

SUP for both adults and children
SUP stands for "Stand Up Paddle Board" and is a marine sport in which you stand on a surfboard and paddle with an oar. Because it has buoyancy, you can ride waves that you can't ride on a longboard, and when there are no waves you can enjoy it at your leisure like a canoe. The appeal is that even beginners can quickly improve. You might even be able to see fish in the sea from the board!

Beach combing treasure hunt
You don't have to wear a swimsuit to go for a stroll along the beach, you can do it in any season and weather. Beachcombing is a great way to get back to your childhood and experience the feeling of treasure hunting, not just for kids but for adults too.

What did you think? Take a deep breath, laugh as much as you can, and recharge your excitement in the summer of Kesennuma!
Finally, check out this year's events!
