The other day, Typhoon No. 12 came close to Japan, which was unusual for this time of year (December), and it became a hot topic. So, this time, we have a quiz about typhoon forecasts!
What exactly does a typhoon's "forecast circle" represent?
The typhoon forecast circle that you often see on weather forecasts does not represent the size of the typhoon, but the area in which the typhoon may hit.
At the forecast time, the area within which there is a 70% chance of the center of the typhoon being there is shown with a white dotted (dashed) circle!

In other words, the smaller the circle, the more likely it is that the forecast will come true, and the larger the circle, the less likely it is that the forecast will come true.
Let's have fun with the weather by correctly understanding what the weather forecast means, not just typhoon forecasts.
